BlackBerry could be poised to unveil its oft-leaked Passport phone at a media event scheduled for later this month.

On Tuesday, the troubled smartphone firm sent out invitations to the press for co-ordinated gatherings in Toronto, London and Dubai on September 24.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based company is using the tagline ‘see the bigger picture’ to sell the event, but hasn’t confirmed what, if anything will be on show.

With BlackBerry expected to announce its latest smartphone, the Passport, during the month of September, most observers would expect that to be the focus.

Previous leaks have pegged the phone as having perfectly square 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1440x1440, which would probably be where the ‘bigger picture’ pun comes in.

The QWERTY-packing handset, which harkens back to some of the designs during the company’s boom period of the mid 2000s, while adding a modern, sleek and super-slim twist has been pictured multiple times in recent months.

In the company’s June earnings call CEO John Chen also revealed the Passport was on the way.

He said: "In September, we will host an event to showcase our device portfolio for the [fiscal year 2015]. We're launching a brand-new device called Passport in September in London.

“Most of the information has been leaked to website, so you guys should go ahead and check that out. This will follow by the Classic coming out in November."
