Samsung's rugged Galaxy Tab Active takes aim at the workplace

Samsung's newest tablet is designed to withstand a four-foot drop, attempted security breaches, and maybe—maybe—even a long hike through the forest.
The Galaxy Tab Active, the latest device after a string of new Samsung releases at IFA, is an eight-inch tablet that is water- and dust-resistant with a a replaceable battery. The 3.1MP camera won't take any images you want to frame, but that's because it's designed specifically for barcode scanning.
Why? Many of Samsung's phones have been released with an Active edition, such as the Galaxy S5 Active. With the new Galaxy Tab Active, however, Samsung decided to try and appeal more to businesses looking to deploy tablets to employees in a variety of work situations and environments.
Samsung's Galaxy Tab Active is essentially the tablet equivalent of the Panasonic Toughbook, featured in commercials with construction workers lugging it to work sites.
To that end Samsung also built a C-Pen for the Galaxy Tab Active, which is a more rugged version of the S Pen. The company says it is easier to handle for those who may be wearing gloves while at a construction site.
Samsung says that it worked with some Fortune 500 companies in developing the tablet, focusing on issues like security and the ability to handle various different work environments. It includes KNOX, a Samsung-built data security tool.
The Galaxy Tab Active will come in WiFi and WiFi/LTE variants with 16GB of storage and a MicroSD slot. No additional details regarding price or launch date are available.
