Microsoft Surface 3 tipped for October release

Microsoft Surface
The Microsoft Surface 3 will enter production next month ahead of an October release, latest reports have suggested.

A device tipped to act as a follow-on to the existing Microsoft Surface 2, the currently unconfirmed tablet will reportedly line up alongside the flagship Surface Pro 3 – a device announced back in May.

Citing unnamed sources within the Taiwanese supply chain, serial tipster DigiTimes has claimed the Surface 3 will enter component production in August. A full scale manufacturing effort will kick off in September.

Although little is currently known about the device, the Surface 3 will reportedly boast a 10.6-inch form factor, down on the Pro’s 12-inch frame.

It has also been suggested the tablet will be “slimmer and lighter” than its predecessor, a move which is said to have pushed Microsoft into expecting a “better sales performance” compared with its past tablet efforts.

If accurate – and we should suggest the claims are taken with a pinch of salt – an October Surface 3 release date would likely see the tablet touch down within weeks of the eagerly awaited iPad Air 2.
