HP has officially announced the oft-teased HP Stream 14 Windows 8.1 laptop.
Specs for the 14.1-inch notebook were leaked out last month touting the device as an affordable answer to the growing popularity of Google Chromebook laptops.
The laptop was scheduled to appear at the IFA tech show in Berlin last week, but HP help back on the launch until Monday.
The specs mentioned within the leaks proved accurate, but the rumoured price point was not. The RRP had been pegged at just $199 (around £120), but the official price will be $300 (around £180) when it goes on sale on September 24. The UK price is yet to be officially confirmed, but expect it to be north of £200.
That’s around the same as HP charges for its nearly-identical Chromebook notebook.
For their cash, users will get an 1,366 x 768 resolution touchscreen display, AMD AR Micro-6400T Quad processor (which integrates graphics) and 2GB of RAM.
There’s only 32GB of storage, but that can be boosted through the presence of a MicroSD slot, while buyers will also get 100GB of free Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage for two years after purchasing the device
HP promises the Stream 14 will offer 6 hours and 30 minutes of battery life, while there’s a HDMI out, one USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports. It’ll be 0.70-inches thick and weights in at 3.8lbs.
